Who can open an account online?

You can open an account online if you meet the following criteria:

  • You're 18 or above
  • You're a citizen of Malaysia with a valid MyKad
  • You're applying for a sole account
  • You don't have an existing account or credit card with us

If you don't meet the above criteria, please visit us in branch to open an account.

How do I open an account online?

Complete the online application form.

You'll then get an email asking you to confirm your identity at one of our Self-Service Machines or branches.

If you don't get an email to say the identity check was successful, you'll need to visit a branch with your MyKad in the next 30 calendar days as we sometimes require additional information to process your application.

What type of accounts are available for online account opening?

How much do I need to deposit after account opening?

How can I make an initial deposit?

You can deposit the minimum amount into your new account by transferring the funds online from another bank. Alternatively, you can use our cash deposit machines or visit us in branch.

When can I start using and transferring funds into my account?

You can start using and transferring funds into your account as soon as we've confirmed your identity at one of our Self-Service Machines or branches.

Your account number will be displayed on our Self-Service Machine.

Can I apply for multiple accounts in one application?

You can only apply for 1 account per online application.

How long does it take to open an account online?

It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete the online application form.

You'll receive an email notification asking you to confirm your identity at one of our Self-Service Machines or branches.

Your application will expire 30 days from the date you submit it online. Please visit a Self-Service Machine or branch as soon as you can to confirm your identity.

Can I save an unfinished application and complete it later?

No, you need to complete your application within 1 session.

I accidentally closed the window in the middle of the account opening process. What should I do?

Unfortunately it can't be retrieved. You'll need to start a new application.

Can I change the information in my application after I've submitted it online?

If you need to change the information in your application after submitting it, you'll need to visit us in branch.

What happens after I submit my application online?

We'll tell you right away if your application is successful.

You'll then get an email asking you to confirm your identity at one of our Self-Service Machines or branches.

If you don't get an email to say the identity check was successful, you'll need to visit a branch with your MyKad in the next 30 calendar days as we sometimes require additional information to process your application.

What do I need to bring when I visit a Self-Service Machine or branch?

If you're using a Self-Service Machine to confirm your identity, please bring your MyKad.

You should also bring other identification documents, such as driving license and passport, in case manual verification is required at the branch counter. We recommend visiting during branch opening hours in case manual verification is required.

Can I cancel my application after I've submitted it?

Please contact one of our branches if you want to cancel your application.

How do I get my debit card?

You'll need to confirm your identity at one of our Self-Service Machines or branches.

Once we've confirmed your identity, your debit card will be delivered to you by courier within 3-6 working days.

How can I check the delivery status of my debit card?

We'll send a tracking number to you via SMS. Alternatively, you can request a delivery tracking number by calling 03-8321 5400.

How do I register for Online Banking?

Download our HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app or register for Online Banking.

To activate Mobile Secure Key:

  1. Download the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app, verify your identity and get your account set up
  2. Set up a 6-digit PIN for your mobile banking log on
  3. Your Mobile Secure Key will now be activated and you'll receive an SMS confirmation

How do I order a chequebook?

You can order a chequebook from an ATM at any of our branches.

What is an MEPS ATM?

MEPS ATM is a service provided to Perks customers by the Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd (MEPS) which allows you to withdraw at any ATM nationwide that has the MEPS logo in addition to our HSBC ATMs for free.

In spite of being a Perks customers the ATM screen prompts a withdrawal fee. What should I do?

Please proceed with the withdrawal as usual. The withdrawal charge notice is a standard across all customers and will be waived for Perks customers.

Can I request to credit my salary into a joint account?

No. To enjoy the exclusive Perks benefits, please ensure your salary is credited into your sole account.

There isn't' any HSBC branch around my office/home, how do I get Customer Service assistance?

Contact us at our dedicated Contact Centre at 1300 88 1388 from 7.30am - 9.30pm daily, or through our Live Chat from 9am - 9pm Mon-Fri, except public holidays.

How do I withdraw money if there isn't an HSBC branch near me?

You can withdraw from over 10,000 ATMs which have the MEPS logo nationwide for free.
